Project Benefits

The development of the Gippsland Skies project will involve a significant investment package that will help deliver local benefits through workforce and supply chain development.

Importantly, it will enable the smooth transition of the Australian energy industry towards a renewables-based future.

Jobs and investment

Over the estimated 40-year project life, Gippsland Skies has the potential to:

  • Create up to 4,700 direct jobs in Victoria, with around 2,000 in Gippsland.

  • Value add of AUD$3.7 billion into the economy.

It will generate opportunities for local supply chain and workforce development, as well as indirect job opportunities in support services.

Skills development will be essential to the long-term success of Gippsland Skies, and we are committed to supporting education, skills and training programmes and initiatives that deliver lasting and tangible benefits to local communities across the region.

We will work with Government, key agencies, stakeholders and industry partners to develop the necessary training programmes needed to support the related manufacturing, construction, operations and maintenance and decommissioning activities for offshore wind energy.

During the development stage of the project, we will have opportunities for people with experience and skillsets spanning, but not limited to, engineering, environmental, commercial, communication and stakeholder relations.

Climate and environment

Offshore wind is a central component of Victoria and Australia’s renewable energy transition. As offshore wind projects become operational, they will provide large-scale renewable energy capacity to the electricity network and enable existing coal-fired power stations to enter the decommissioning phase.

When fully operational, this project could supply approximately 17 per cent of the Victorian State’s 2023 electricity demand and will contribute significantly to the Victorian Government’s offshore wind targets of at least 2 GW by 2032 and 4 GW by 2035.

Community engagement and benefits

We are committed to delivering real benefits to communities in the region.

Our team is committed to working closely with community representatives to better understand local issues, needs and requirements.

We are currently preparing a programme that will help deliver initiatives which provide social value and long-term benefits to the local and regional communities in Victoria.
