Gippsland Offshore Wind Days - November 2024
In November the Gippsland Skies team attended a series of ‘Gippsland Offshore Wind Days’ at Foster, Yarram, Traralgon and Seaspray. These events were a coordinated effort to provide an opportunity for local communities to engage with Gippsland offshore wind developers who were awarded a Feasibility Licence in 2024, as well as key State and Federal government departments including VicGrid. At the events, community could meet our team, gain an insight into the offshore wind development process, and learn more about what opportunities this new industry represents for the State of Victoria.

Gippsland New Energy Conference 2024
As a proud Gold Sponsor, we were delighted to contribute to several panel discussions, meet and greet stakeholders at our Gippsland Skies conference booth and talk careers with school-goers at our Gippy Youth New Energy Job Summit booth - enticed over by local biscuits from Bernis Bikkies sourced in Traralgon!
Some reflections on the offshore wind market provided by our team Rory Van Weerdenburg, Bill Mundy, Ashley McDonald included the below and see some photos from the event too:
🤝 The Opportunity! Australia stands to benefit from the decade-long learnings of mature markets, like the UK – what to do and what not to do. This encompasses all aspects of project development including how to work effectively and efficiently with all stakeholders including Government, developers, financiers – the full industry spectrum. Collaboration is critical to seize the opportunity the offshore wind market presents and develop projects in a cost-efficient and timely way.
🏗 Port Infrastructure: A strategic plan is required at a national level to provide certainty for investment in ports and local supply chain development.
👷♀️Skills & Training: Now is the time to start the groundwork to build a local, highly trained, and skilled workforce for the construction and O&M phases of our project. Regional Universities are key to getting people to study and stay in the region to support workforce capacity. We are looking forward to collaborating on initiatives such as the Skills Lab being established by TAFE Gippsland and we encourage students to consider a career in offshore wind.
Our Head of Legal & Compliance, Anita Murphy also spoke at the Gippsland Women in New Energy breakfast proudly sponsored by Gippsland Skies about her career journey in discovering her love of working in the renewable energy industry. Anita encouraged attendees to consider options and choices available to women in the new energy sector and to discover their own path to career fulfilment through mentorship and professional development training.
